Indranil Ghosh joins Rest of World as Middle East and Africa Editor
Ghosh, who has previously worked for The National and Bloomberg, will be based in Abu Dhabi.
We are excited to announce that Indranil Ghosh, a veteran journalist and editor who has covered business, technology and international news, will become our new Middle East and Africa Editor.
In his most recent role, Indranil was the deputy foreign editor at The National based in Abu Dhabi, where he has lived since 2021. At The National, he led a team of over 40 reporters and editors, covering key stories like Israel’s war on Gaza, the Sudan conflict, and the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan. Before that, he spent over 20 years at Bloomberg in various editorial roles covering technology and businesses across Hong Kong, India and Singapore.
Indranil will be leading a new role at Rest of World, which combines spearheading coverage of countries across the Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa, and North Africa. He will be based in Abu Dhabi and will soon begin building a pool of freelancers in the Gulf and across the region. Damilare, our reporter based in Lagos, will report to Indranil.
Indranil speaks English, Hindi and Bengali fluently, and is passionate about contemporary Bengali literature. His favorite author is Sunil Gangopadhyay. After hours, Indranil likes to watch a movie, harboring dreams of making a better one himself someday. He grew up watching Bollywood movies but has been leaning toward films from southern India lately. Vetrimaaran is his favorite director at the moment. Indranil also enjoys cooking — mostly Indian and sometimes Western dishes. “I find it cathartic prepping for and hosting an evening,” he says.
Please join us in welcoming Indranil to Rest of World.
