Maryam Saleh joins Rest of World as Investigations Editor
Saleh will be Rest of World's first investigations editor, and comes to us from The Intercept.
Rest of World is thrilled to announce that Maryam Saleh is joining the team as our first Investigations Editor. In her new role, Saleh will lead ambitious, newsroom-wide investigative projects and help elevate daily coverage. Her work here will include keeping the world’s biggest tech giants accountable, and exposing unexpected outcomes and bad behavior in growing sectors like AI.
Maryam Saleh was formerly a senior editor at The Intercept, where she edited politics, features, and investigations on a range of topics ranging from Israel’s war in Gaza, to the death penalty, to environmental racism.
She previously worked as an investigative editor at Reveal from The Center for Investigative Reporting. There, she was the lead editor on a multiplatform project that exposed the proliferation of laws after the 2020 election that would increase police involvement in elections. The work was recognized with a Sidney Award and an Edward R. Murrow Award for Investigative Reporting.
Before that, Maryam spent nearly five years at The Intercept as an editor and reporter covering politics, immigration, criminal justice, and global affairs. In 2019, she was part of an award-winning reporting team led by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists that uncovered the misuse of solitary confinement in U.S. immigration detention.
Maryam lives in Washington, D.C., and will join Rest of World starting in the middle of February.
Please join us in welcoming Maryam to the team!
